Brit + Co Collaboration

When one of my best friends who works for Brit + Co asked if we wanted Evangeline to participate in a photoshoot for Brit + Co's website, we said yes! We thought how fun to have some professional photos taken of her (although if you've seen my husband, Hons' photography you'd probably think we already had plenty of amazing shots of our girls). Then I got an email from the team saying how excited they were about our upcoming mother/daughter photoshoot. Um, say wha? I was three months postpartum. Need I say more? I told Hons I wasn't going to do it, but obviously, you're looking at photos from the shoot.

I had 13 pounds of leftover baby weight that up until that point, I actually felt ok about. Naturally, I began to replay in my head all the indulgent meals and desserts I consumed from the moment I had Phoebe to that last email and cursed each one. How much weight can one lose in a week while not compromising a loss of milk supply? I'll tell you 2 lbs are completely inconsequential, but still made me feel better. Totally psychological, and definitely just water, but whatever, I'll take it.

My excitement for Evangeline and the overall experience outweighed (not another weight reference) my insecurity. And the moment we met the team, any residual issues I had were for the most part gone. They were all so sweet and genuine and immediately put us at ease. Throughout the shoot, Evangeline and I got lost in a world of reading books, gardening, baking, and playing. They are all things we do at home together, so it was easy to play the role.

I didn't even see the photos yet and I was so glad I agreed to the shoot. I mean, I was still a bit nervous there would be more bad angles than good (of me, because there are no bad angles of Evangeline). But glory, there were no meltdowns, we had fun, she got her cupcake, and I my glass of wine! In an effort to create more memories, I realize I need to take myself less seriously and just be in the moment. Had I remained consumed with my insecurities, I would've missed out on meeting some awesome people, having an amazing experience with my daughter, and creating beautiful keepsakes.
