AutoCamp
We needed a vacation, but didn't have time to take a big one. (Really, we didn't have time to take a vacation from a big vacation. Traveling with a baby and a toddler is exhausting!) So we wanted to go somewhere nearby, just far enough away, and it had to involve nature. I really wanted to rent an Airstream and head up to the redwoods, but driving a giant car/camper for the first time ever, with two young children(!), seemed a bit ambitious. Then we heard about a magical place called AutoCamp, where all of our vacation wishes could come true.
There, nestled in the redwood trees of the Russian River, is a campsite of fully decked out Airstreams and luxury tents. We had nearby access to some redwoods, and the best part is that it's only 1.5 hours from the City. Glamping, anyone? Yes, please. The grounds were amazing, but rather than tell you about it, I'll let the photos show you. (Hons, here's my public plea for you to get me one of those hanging rattan chairs!) We had such a fun time bonding as a family over the several days of our stay.
And, the redwoods. We took a short 10 minute drive to Armstrong Redwoods Natural State Reserve and hiked the easiest trail (um, we're glamping, remember?). Evangeline proudly carried her walking stick, observed three different types of moss, and got lost in a world of woodland imagination. We brought her field guide and while we didn't necessarily match anything we saw on the trail to our book, it was so inspiring to bring along with us.
My love of nature has been very pronounced lately, and this trip scratched the need-to-get-outdoors itch. Spending these last several days breathing in the scent of redwoods, roasted marshmallows, and crackling fire was exactly what this family of four needed. Whether it's a day trip or a longer trip, I encourage you to go and make new memories with your loved ones!
